Happy 4th of July!

I hope each of you have a fantastic 4th of July and enjoy spending quality time with your family. We aren't doing anything spectacular this year, just a small cookout before our neighbors go and see fireworks. One day when Korey will be willing to be up past 8 p.m. we will go and see them but not this year again. Also if you have noticed there has been less activity on the blog lately, I am having issues with my internet connection and also we are having repairs done on the apartment and basement so I've been busy busy busy. Soon I will be switching over to my own hosting and domain so please make sure that you are signed up through RSS or email as google friend connect will no longer apply to my blog. Thank you and have a great night!!

Korey Meets Plex And His First Rochester Red Wings Baseball Game!

This is another great Daddy moment! If you are not familiar with my boyfriend's job he delivers newspapers every night, yes EVERY night. He has not had a day off in 2 years, he is such an amazing man for how much work he does. Since he is out every night he listens to the radio and just happened to catch hearing Plex from Yo Gabba Gabba would be visiting the Rochester Red Wings . In the morning when I woke I was told to pack up and get ready for a visit to Rochester. We are lucky enough to live right in between two major cities, so I was excited that we were leaving for the day.

When I heard it was to see Plex, I even squealed with glee! Korey watched some Yo Gabba Gabba in the morning and we made sure to point out to him that he would be seeing Plex, the same beanie character that he carried around all day. Now I have seen many children meet characters in suits and knew the chances of a child crying are 50/50 we I was well prepared for that. If you remember earlier though, Korey has met Spongebob and he didn't tear up. Same with Santa and the Easter Bunny.

It was rainy on the way there but once we arrived the rain had stopped. Out we set with Duder (one of Korey's many many nicknames) to find Plex. It was a bummer when we found Plex that he was about to head for a break, but they let us get a quick picture with him. Guess what happened? Yup, my baby cried and cried. He refused to take a picture without Daddy so this is the only good photo of them with Plex that I got. I don't even want to go into how much we paid to park and get tickets to the game, because really we did fully go to see Plex. Oh well I said after Plex took his break, we knew this could happen.

So we went and looked around at the different food they offered and looked at the gift shop for the team. Keith and I both said we are definately coming back to try the different food they have, they have cheesecake on a stick! I workout so I like a treat every now and then. Prepare for lots of pictures of the rest of our day at Frontier Field!

I LOVE photos of them walking holding hands :)

Yummy funnel cake!

Yeah we saw Plex again before we left. He still wasn't having it.

Happy Father's Day!

To my wonderful Daddy and to Keith for being such a fantastic father to Korey. Also want to wish a very happy Father's Day to my brother Russell who is over in Afghanistan fighting right now. His base was hit pretty bad and he saved a fellow solider with his quick reaction and training. I love you brother and want you home safe!

Have You Ever Had A Psychic Reading?

I have always been curious of psychic readings, tarot cards and the like. Now I am not really one to be skeptic, after all I am Wiccan so these things are really right in line with things I have read and I can't rule out that there's a possibility they could work. However I haven't really seen that many around, or even at fairs or festivals. So the chance has never really come by me.

What could I hear from a psychic? Maybe something about my past relatives I never knew, or even being able to connect with my grandmother would be a wonderful experience for me. I have heard many psychics helping people with the passing of family members and giving them peace. That is so comforting to know that if you were interested in a psychic reading these days you could even get them online or over the phone if you can't find one near you.

Have you ever had a reading experience with a psychic? If so how did it go, did it make you a believer or a skeptic? If you haven't had a psychic reading before is there anything in particular that is holding you back from trying?

While The Boys Are Away, Mommy Will...Clean. Oh Goody.

While my favorite boys are gone for awhile, they have gone and picked up a video game for Daddy, I get to stay home and clean. Oh yes those fun days when all you want to do is lay down but you're afraid if you do that pile of who knows what might start to engulf you. So today, I clean.

What are you usually doing when you have the house to yourself?

Sending A Care Package To Soldiers For The First Time

Recently my brother's base was attacked, as you remember from this post I am always on alert when he is overseas. He asked on Facebook if anyone was able to send care packages to their base that they would appreciate it. They lost a lot of their facilities and need items like snacks, food, hygiene products, etc. For the first time ever I'm going to be sending a care package to him, and another one with items for everyone to use.

I know it's a great thing to due but it hurts so much to think of how close he became to not being here. He is so great at his job and after seeing how well he does for his other soldiers I know there is no where else he should be. Russell, I love you brother you're amazing. I can't wait till I see you again.

Have you ever sent a care package to a solider?

Renting Your Textbooks For College Will Save You Cash!

Textbook rentals are gaining popularity now with college students, as well they should! I know first hand how frustrating it can be to get your list of classes and go shopping in the campus bookstore for your first semester every year. It is always painful once you bring the brand new books upfront and go to cash out, I've heard of people paying close to $1,000 for their college books. That is just outrageous!

If you or one of your children are going back to college, I highly suggest saving yourself some money and choose to rent your textbooks instead. Not only did I waste so much money buying brand new books, the college didn't take back most of them and I just had to toss them. Such a horrible moment just watching money be wasted! If I would have chosen to rent my textbooks instead I wouldn't have had to worry about having useless books lying around.

When I did decide to rent my textbooks I couldn't believe how easy it was for me. You choose the books that you need and they arrive just as good as new books. The condition my rented textbooks were in just surprised me, they are very well taken care of. The extra cash that I had left over from renting I was able to use in the cafeteria on days I forgot my lunch and to use towards clothes shopping for school.

At the end of the semester I returned my rented books and was guaranteed that they would be taken back! My bookshelf was less cluttered and my pocket was fuller from keeping more of my financial aid. If you find yourself   hating the total at the college bookstore and needing more cash for books every semester you need to rent textbooks instead!

What A Birthday Week!

Korey's 1st birthday was April 26th. He got an early start to his birthday though when a present from my brother and sister-in-law arrived at the door step!

He received a Little Tikes Handle Haulers® Haul & Ride and boy does he love it! I will be doing a review on this because it was a fantastic birthday present.

Knives, the cat, took over his Cars 2 couch from my mom.

Lots of Yo Gabba Gabba stuff! A Brobee pillow, nap mat, new sheets and a blankie that he now carries around the room.

His banner really rocked too! I was so happy with it. We had everyone who came sign his banner and we will be hanging it up in his room. There will be more pictures of the festivities to come later.

I Want To Be Ariel For My Wedding! Disney Fairytale Princess Dresses

Did you know that Disney makes Fairy Tale Wedding Dresses? I nearly fell out of my chair when I was reading a bridal magazine and saw the advertisement for them. Of course I want to dress like a princess for my wedding! Oh maybe I should say that we actually are getting married in two months, thank you! Sadly though it won't be a huge thing, we don't really have that kind of money right now but we will eventually celebrate with a traditional reception.

But I will be wearing a dress when I get married, haven't the slightest clue which one yet. It definitely won't be any of Disney's beautiful fairytale dresses, I can only wish upon a star. So let me introduce you to the dresses that I would wear from Disney's collections.

First is this Ariel Fairytale Dress from the collection 2.

Okay listen to the description of the this dress:
Cascading ruffles in taffeta and satin organza pay tribute to Ariel’s oceanic home. Inspired by the gentle movement of the ocean’s tide, this romantic gown features gently cascading ruffles, self-made flowers with feather accents that softly sway and dance as if under the sea. The gown's one shoulder bodice is perfect for the bride who wants a splash of the unexpected.

I fell in love just with the description, a total romantic under da' sea dress! A cute flower in the hair, maybe some little curl in the hair. Yes I am the Princess of the Sea! It would make for a cute sea reception when we have one.

Snow White's Dress is so beautiful. I love the layer of the dress and how much it looks like it would swish! I have always wanted to put on a wedding dress and just swish it around hearing that beautiful sound. The colors for the wedding reception would be black, white, and red. As requested by the boyfriend, haha. With that in mind, Snow White sort of theme would be perfect. Oh the things I could do with that theme!

And the other one that I like is the Cinderella style wedding dress from the first collection. If that doesn't say swishy I don't know what does!

My question to you is what did you wear/plan to wear on your wedding day?

Counting Down The Days Til Korey Turns 1

I haven't really blogged about Korey's upcoming first birthday, April 26th. I don't know if it's because I've been busying trying to get everything together, or if I just don't want to think of my first child turning 1 quite yet. It has been so surreal every day that it is getting closer, picking out the theme (Yo Gabba Gabba), setting the time, inviting every one. Each piece of putting this party together hurts my heart a little bit.

I have completely giving up the fact that I can't change Korey ageing. No amount of watching Harry Potter will train me to learn that spell. Admitting the fact that someday I will not be around anymore to see Korey was what made me realize my role as a parent. I need to raise a well educated, well mannered, happy and full of love and life child. As long as Korey is excited about life and all the possibilities he can accomplish, I believe that my job as a good parent will be done.

I know this is just one year of many, but I feel that it's special because of how much he accomplished in just one year. He went from being completely dependent on me for food and just crying to communicate to grabbing my hand and walking to his high chair when he's hungry. I'm tearing up now just writing this. My baby is turning into a little boy being so independent more and more. The day he says I love you, oh the ambulance will be called to put my heart back together after it melts.

Bring on the birthday party.

Boys Will Be Boys, Living Room Fort

I had almost forgotten about these photos. I took these after I had come out of the shower and heard giggling in the living room.

My boyfriend is an only child and he has so much joy being able to play with our son Korey. You can see that from the look in his eyes. My two boys. Love them.

How 'Normal' Is Your Name?

While reading Mama Goes Bam's post about her name and her child's, it really hit home to me. Hello my name is Ashleigh. Or would be it better if I wrote it Ashley? I cannot tell you the amount of times that my name has been pronounced wrong. Alicia? Which is hilarious because that is my best friend's name. Yeah sorry not close.

The best one was when I was in middle school art class and we had a substitute. Alright Ash-Lee-Ga? Everyone in the class started laughing and looked around. I raised my hand and said it's pronounced Ash-lee. Seriously? Who the heck would even name their kid Ashleega? I have dealt with this all of my life though, so when having a baby I knew that I really didn't want anything crazy. However I always strongly feel that no one but the parents should have a say in what the baby will be named.

So when I found out I was pregnant I talked with my boyfriend. We both already knew names we wanted, I had a girls name picked out and he had a boys name picked out. There was no since in even bothering talking about the names until we found out the sex. Well as you know we had a boy and I completely allowed Keith to name our son whatever he wanted, he named him Korey, with a K because he wanted our children to have names that started with K.

Now if you didn't know you pronounce Korey, like Corey. And again I cannot tell you how many people spell his name wrong and pronounce it wrong. So many people think it's Karey for some reason. I have no idea why! I hope we haven't doomed him for the rest of his life with his name, but I love it. Even though he can rarely have anything in stores with his name on it.

Is your name something different or unique? Did you worry about what to name your child at all?

When Mommy Needs A Vacation

Do you ever just feel so overwhelmed? Ever since my son was born I have constantly been around him and taken care of him. I am not saying that I don't love watching him grow and achieve his milestones, trust me I know how lucky I am to watch each one of those. However it can get to be quite stressful for both the baby and mommy when you never separate.

Currently Korey is starting to get at the attachment phase. So that view of him is what I usually have all day. Right next to me yelling all the time. I go and play on the floor with him , try to find games, take him outside. But alas he is usually always at the bottom of my feet yelling.

He did start crying for Daddy recently. It only happens when Daddy is getting ready to leave and go somewhere, I mean he really lays on the waterworks. Then Daddy starts to cry, and it usually takes a lot for that man to cry but when it comes to Korey he can cry at any moment.

So my question to you is, if you have gone through this stage what did you do to stop the attachment? Or at least help your child be comfortable around other people besides Mommy and Daddy.

Little Miss Savannah Lee Is Here!

As most of you know the other half of this blog is my best friend. For Korey's birth she wasn't able to make it, he was ready when I woke up in the hospital. Well my boyfriend got the phone call at 5:00am on Sunday that Alicia was going into the hospital she was in a lot of pain. He was doing his paper route and I was at home with the baby, I had to wait for him to come home and my mother to drive me to the hospital . I didn't make it to the hospital until 9:30am and she was still having bad contractions and waiting to push.

Once I got there he face sort of seemed to light up and the pushing started. I stepped right in with a washcloth and rubbed her head with it reminding her to breathe. My god she did so amazing with her breathing. I cannot tell you enough how good she was when she was reminded to watch her breathing. I didn't do any good breathing, I only stopped freaking out once I needed to push.

Well little miss Savannah Lee was taking quite the time to pass that pubic bone and get settled in. Alicia had been using sooo much energy and I could tell she was tired in her face. She was sweating profusely and kept wanting to give up. Once she got those pushes with her moved down more she spent about another 10 minutes pushing until they noticed that Savannah Lee wasn't going to fit. Well Alicia was cut twice, poor girl, and finally with a few more pushes Savannah Lee made her appearance into the world and there were tears and laughter and kisses.

My best friend Alicia is amazing. I would replay that birth over and over again to watch her step into that strong warrior birth mother mode. She is a great best friend and an even better mother. Welcome world Savannah Lee 10:23 am 3/18/2012 8lbs 7oz.
