Support @Walgreens and needs your support!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Walgreens and Express Scripts had a contract together that expired on December 31st 2011. Since the new year Walgreens is not longer part of the Express Scripts network. If you are not familiar with Express Scripts allow me to give you more information. Walgreens did not ask for more money. Express Scripts wanted to be able to define what is a generic drug and what is a brand drug. They also want to cut down Walgreens reimbursement rates. None of this saves customers anything on their insurance as well, it's all the pain and hassle with nothing in return.

Express Scripts is the middleman when it comes to the pharmacies who provide the health care services and the employees and the health plans that are paying for the medicines you get.  Because they are the middleman no one sees what they pay Walgreens. Express Scripts is gaining financially and this leaves the relationship with Walgreens out of balance.  The costs that they are expecting pharmacies to pay could end up making you not able to get your medication from your community pharmacies and leave you using mail order pharmacy instead.

Only patients with certain prescription insurance plans managed by Express Scripts are impacted.  Check the back of your prescription card, if it says Express Scripts you may be effected, if it doesn't then you are not. Call your insurance provider to find out and make sure that you are not effected.

Tricare is also caught up in al this mess and it is effecting military personnel because of that. Tricare is a prescription and health program for the military. Walgreens did their best in trying to still allow Tricare members to be provided services through Walgreens but Express Scripts denied every effort that Walgreens made.

Customers that are affected are undeniably upset. Many have been with Walgreens for years and now they are being forced out by Express Scripts. If you have been effected you are encouraged to contact your local media and raise your voice of dissatisfaction. In the days of the internet and social media being largely influential, your voice is the strongest thing you have!

Walgreens does want to help those affected. They are offering a special discount on their annual membership for the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens.

To stay up to date with Walgreens and their ongoing effort connect with them at Walgreens on Facebook and also Walgreens on Twitter.
